 JOB DESCRIPTION
 Job Title: FIELD COORDINATOR

BASIC FUNCTIONS

 Administration:

1)To participate under the oversight of the Project Director in the planning and full implementation of bi-lingual Cancer public education campaign targeting the communities of Aurora and Elgin.

2) Conduct a community mapping of community clinics and private physician offices, located in Aurora, that provide primary care services to Latino Spanish speaking population. Identify potential medical venues in the targeted area to conduct a medical detailing campaign.

3) Establish a relationship with high schools and community colleges in Aurora and Elgin with the purpose to participate in their community education events.

Project Development:

  • Research, adapt, translate or design culturally and linguistically appropriate materials to inform the community about cervical and breast cancer risks. Design a bi-lingual community education strategy targeting low literacy skills, gender and age appropriate populations to be informed about symptoms, risks, the benefits of early screening and cancer treatment options. Identify venues where the campaign can be implemented in Aurora and Elgin. Carry-out the campaign through the inclusion of materials and event in appropriate venues.
  • Utilizing community mapping methodologies identify in the area of Aurora physician offices and clinics that target Latina population. Introduce the project to physicians and clinics in the Aurora area. Distribute bi-lingual brochures to be made available to female patients while attending to doctor’s appointments. Conduct focus groups with physicians to learn the inclusion of breast and cervical cancer in their routine practices and patient education interaction. Conduct medical detailing sessions focusing in the inclusion of breast and cervical cancer screening as a routine health care practice among Latina women in Aurora.
  • Introduce the project and materials to high schools and community colleges located in Aurora and Elgin. Arrange participation in community education events scheduled in these selected institutions.

Public Relations and Education of Community Stakeholders : Participate in Department of Health and other committees as pertinent to the position.

Networking : Participate in community and planning meetings to educate community partners about the project and increase community participation, in both women’s early screening and medical detailing.

Reports to : Director of Programs.

Professional development : BA Community Health, Education, Nursing, Counseling or Pre-medical career.

 

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:  

  • Bi-lingual, Bi-cultural English/Spanish
  • Experience in community education
  • Familiarity with basic health concepts
  • Computer skills
  • Flexible schedule.
